Githongo Tea Factory was commissioned on 5th January 1976 to manufacture Black CTC Teas. The annual processing capacity was 5,500,000 kilograms of green leaf. This capacity has however increased over the years, through factory expansions initiated in the financial years 1986/87 and 1997/98. The factory now has a capacity of 20 million kilograms of green leaf.

The factory lies at 35°- 37’ East of Greenwich Meridian and 0° 01’ north of the Equator at an Altitude of 1971 m above sea level. It falls within the KTDA administrative Region IV.
